This is James (Jimmy) Shand's earliest release, from 1934, before he formed the famous band which made many, many records of Scottish music for the Parlophone label.
Sailordskx ------------ yes you are absolutely correct and this recording was made several years before Will Starr made any recording. Absolutely fantastic.

I think the speeding up is caused by nerves and is unintentional. Jimmy was, nevertheless, one of the greatest British musicians of the twentieth century, and is severely underestimated by the British public.

With regard to what altclut wrote.....speeding up caused by nerves. Maybe nerves, yes, but this on turn was caused by the fact, that the whole thing should fit on the record,...only possible by playing in high tempo. At that time that was a hard thing for many artists. Also cutting wasn't yet possible,if lapses came in,..it was starting all over! From scratch! Unless the performer(s) didn't wish,but...the record company did!!

The recording infancy of a giant. As is written here, severely underestimated by many but the proof is here - we are listening to a recording over 80 years old and still amazed at the artistry of 25 year old James Shand.
